Functional structure of the Initiative

SBCI Board
SBCI operates under the guidance of its
Board. It meets twice a year to define the work programme on focus
areas, monitor progress, and advise the Secretariat on the management
and development of the Initiative. The Board ultimately reports
to, and receives its mandate from, the SBCI membership through decisions
made at the annual meeting.

SBCI Think Tank
SBCI established a Think Tank, providing a strategic outlook and
advice on needs and recommended actions for SBCI in the focus areas.
The Think Tank is composed of experts drawn from SBCI members and
invited experts. The members of the Think Tank will therefore change
when a new topic is addressed. Results from the Think Tank will
be published, twice a year, in SBCI reports.

Tank section >>
SBCI Working Groups
Working Groups are established with the purpose to develop tools
and strategies responding to the recommendations from the Think
Tank. The working groups include professionals drawn from SBCI members,
in-house resources of the UNEP/SBCI secretariat. The output from
the Working Groups are presented at the SBCI workshops.

the Working Groups section >>
Partnerships
SBCI partnerships are external cooperation programmes and projects
undertaken jointly with other organizations and initiatives. Indeed,
in addition to its core activities, SBCI also engages in a wider
promotion of sustainable buildings and construction practices by
participating in programmes and projects that have a potential to
significantly support the objectives of SBCI. Such activities may
include participation in inter-governmental programmes working on
sustainability issues in the sector, in industry sector initiatives,
and in demonstration projects of specific aspects of sustainable
buildings and construction.

the Partnerships section >>
Networks
SBCI is also establishing cooperation with organisations and networks
that are conducting research, so as to provide the SBCI membership
with access to cutting edge developments in the area. Membership
of the SBCI provide access to the research database of cooperating
organisations, and would give members an opportunity to directly
contribute to the work of those organisations.
